Website Update WordPress 5.0 +, What to do if you’re not feeling Gutenberg

You’ve logged in to your WordPress dashboard to update your website, clicked the update button, waited, got the success message but now you want to edit a page and something’s not quite right.

The backend editor has changed, some options or page builders are not in the right place and everything looks a bit big.

With the release of WordPress 5.0 the default editor has now been swapped out for the Gutenberg editor. There have been mixed feelings surrounding the decision to make this the default editor as many think that Gutenberg is not quite ready for this step.

Many users of WordPress feel that Gutenberg requires more testing and are not quite ready for the new editor. This is also echoed in the low rating the plugin currently has is the WordPress repository, only 2 stars (As of 7 March 2019).

In our opinion some of the features that the editor offers are great but in practice it is causing a lot of users grief, especially those using page builders, because content and layouts are having to be tested across the board as it is the nature of an editor to directly affect items displayed on a page.

So if you need a little wiggle room while wrapping your head around the new editor don’t worry here are two ways to rollback to the classic editor:

First option: Classic editor plugin (Recommended)

In your WordPress backend navigate to:

Add new plugin –>
Search for the Classic Editor plugin –>
Click install
